John Giles' Full Speech of Endorsement

Good Morning.

Today, I have enlisted with great enthusiasm for this assignment to stand at this podium with Senator Harri Anne Smith.

Over the past decade, I have had the honor of leading an economic, moral and socially conservative grassroots, nonprofit organization. We could not and would not endorse a candidate or political parties – but we were indeed issues driven.

So in that spirit, it is my wish to convey to you how rare it is for me to act in this capacity.

When the vast majority of Alabamians, including myself, select a candidate, we embrace a 3 point criteria.

With equal weight – we are seeking someone who is; one, unequivocally qualified, two; electable and three; proven, tried and tested on tough issues of our day.

It is point number three that I believe draw the vast distinctions between these primary candidates, and why I decided to stand here today.

Senator Harri Anne Smith, in no uncertain terms, has stood tirelessly, fearlessly and firmly to protect the tenets of our organization, which were:

Strengthening the family; protecting innocent human life; returning education to local & parental control; easing the tax burden on families; punishing criminals & defending victims’ rights; protecting young people & our communities from the pollution of pornography and from the expansion of gambling; defending the institution of marriage and protecting religious freedom.

Senator Harri Anne Smith stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us every day on legislation to crack down on the expansion of gambling, protect children – born and unborn, preserve the definition of tradition marriage, actively engaged to stop the raising of taxes and fought relentlessly to protect the sacred donor list of churches

Proven ----- Tried & Tested

I even witnessed Senator Smith getting cussed out on the Senate Floor --- in the strongest terms of profanity over trying to pass a prayer bill --- can you imagine that?

Senator Harri Anne Smith routinely would ask me about legislation and how it will affect economic, moral and social conservatives in the state.

A mark of true leadership is one who is principled, gets all of the facts, analyzes interferences and then comes to a reasonable conclusion.
I think what I love most about Senator Smith is she will make the tough decisions based on principle and the heck with the political consequences.

The US Congress needs to be run on principal and not polls.

So today, let it be heard throughout the Wiregrass and all the District in the strongest possible terms --- if you consider yourself to be an economic, social and moral conservative, join me in voting for and supporting Senator Harri Anne Smith to represent the 2nd Congressional District of Alabama in the United States Congress
