Senator Harri Anne Smith Receives Volunteer Fire Award

(GENEVA, ALABAMA)—The Geneva County Volunteer Firefighters Association recently recognized State Senator Harri Anne Smith (R-Slocomb) with the “Special Appreciation Award” for her support of volunteer fire departments in the Wiregrass. The award was presented at a meeting in Hartford, Alabama on March 29th.

“Harri Anne Smith has been a tireless champion of firefighter causes throughout Geneva County. She has worked diligently and gone above and beyond what we expect from our elected officials,” said Mark Shehee, President of the Geneva Volunteer Firefighters Association, upon presenting the award. “It’s safe to say she’s one of the best friends a volunteer firefighter could hope to have,” he added.

Senator Smith said she was honored to receive the award. “Having been the mayor of a small town, I know how important volunteer fire departments are to the safety of our citizens. As a state senator, I have always worked to provide those responsible for public safety in our communities the tools and resources they need to be the best at what they do. We owe these men and women a great debt of gratitude. They do dangerous work and don’t ask for more than a ‘thank you’. Providing them the tools they need to do their job is the least we can do.” Senator Smith said.
