Bill Harris Joins Smith Campaign as Coordinator

(DOTHAN, ALABAMA) State Senator Harri Anne Smith (R-Slocomb), candidate for Congress in Alabama’s Second Congressional District, named Elmore County Native Bill Harris as Coordinator of her Congressional campaign.

“Bill brings a wealth of expertise and experience to my Congressional campaign,” said Senator Smith. “Bill has worked at all levels of politics; he is a veteran of many political campaigns with a reputation of efficiency and effectiveness. I am very proud to have him on the team,” she added.

In 1996, he successfully ran Robert Aderholt’s first bid for the United States Congress, and then went on to serve as Congressman Aderholt’s District Director.  In 1997 he ran the state’s Republican Party in the role of executive director.  In 2004, he was elected as a Bush/Cheney delegate to the Republican National Convention from the second congressional district.  Harris was elected this year as a Huckabee delegate, and will again represent the Republican Party as a convention delegate for the second congressional district.

Harris is a licensed realtor in the River Region. He is presently a Lieutenant Colonel in the Alabama National Guard, where he has served for the last twenty-five years. He is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and has served abroad during several tours of duty including Sierra Leone Africa, Germany, and Kuwait. While stationed in the Middle East in 2003, he was the Public Affairs Officer for the United States Army Central Command in Saudi Arabia.

Bill Harris and his wife Nikki have two sons. They are active members of East Memorial Baptist Church in Prattville.
