Club for Growth PAC Endorses Harri Anne Smith for AL-02

(WASHINGTON)—Today, the Club for Growth PAC endorsed State Senator Harri Anne Smith in Alabama’s Second Congressional District.

Senator Smith has established a reputation for consistently opposing higher taxes and more government spending in the Alabama Legislature, even if it meant standing alone. When the Republican governor proposed a massive tax increase in 2003, Smith was the only senator—Republican and Democrat—to vote against it. She was also one of three to vote against an increase in the state tax on nursing homes. When it came to increased government spending, Senator Smith could be counted on to fight for smaller government.

The other candidate with a voting record presents a starkly different picture. Jay Love has voted for multiple tax increases as a state representative, including the massive tax hike in 2003. In 2005, he supported the governor’s plan to expand the prescription drug program and has also supported bloated government spending bills.

“Harri Anne Smith has a proven track record of sticking up for taxpayers,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “When a candidate is the only state senator voting against a massive tax increase, taxpayers know they can count on her to fight the tax hikers and big spenders in Congress.”
