Harri Anne Smith Names Jim Kelly as Campaign Chair

(DOTHAN, ALABAMA) Alabama State Senator Harri Anne Smith (R-Slocomb), Republican candidate for U.S. Congress, today named Hartford native Jim Kelly as Chairman of her Campaign Committee.  Kelly is President and CEO of Kelly Company, LLC and general partner of Kelly Farms, a family-owned agriculture/agribusiness in the Wiregrass.

Upon appointing Kelly, Senator Smith said, “Jim Kelly is a long-time friend, and I am honored he has agreed to spearhead my campaign for Congress. His integrity is legendary, and his knowledge of and love for Alabama and the Wiregrass are unparalleled.”

Kelly will work in a voluntary capacity with the campaign team on strategic planning, including message development and fundraising efforts. “There is no one more suited to represent District 2 in Congress than Harri Anne Smith,” Kelly said after being named Chairman. “In the state senate, she’s been a stalwart for fiscal restraint, governmental accountability, lower taxes and economic growth—just what Washington desperately needs,” he added.

Jim Kelly currently is in his fourth term as a board member of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, appointed by three Governors. He is married to Janie Crews, a Dothan anesthetist, and they have four children. The Kellys live in Dothan.

Alabama’s Second Congressional District is comprised of sixteen south Alabama counties, including all of the Wiregrass, part of Montgomery and all of Elmore and Autauga Counties. The district is currently represented by Congressman Terry Everett (]) who will not seek re-election in 2008.
