Watson, Flowers to Chair Smith Finance Committee


(DOTHAN, ALABAMA)—Republican Congressional candidate and State Senator Harri Anne Smith (R-Slocomb) today announced the appointment of John H. Watson and George Flowers as co-chairmen of the Finance Committee for her Second Congressional District campaign.

John Watson is Chair of Smith’s, Inc., and George Flowers is President of Cox Pools, Inc., both businesses headquartered in Dothan.

“John Watson and George Flowers have contributed greatly to the economic growth and quality of life in the Wiregrass and in the state of Alabama,” Senator Smith said. “I am grateful for their support, their friendship and their efforts in this campaign.  They share my commitment to our district, our state and our country and I feel blessed to have them on our campaign team.”

Watson was born in Dale County, graduated from Newton High School and received his degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in 1960. He is a former member and chairman of the Alabama Ethics Commission and a 2004 inductee in the Alabama Business Hall of Fame.  Mr. Watson and his wife Gail have two children and six grandchildren.

Mr. Flowers was born in Dothan, graduated from Northview High School, Auburn University and received his master’s degree in accounting from the University of Alabama. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the Business Council of Alabama.  Mr. Flowers  and his wife Laura have three children.

Alabama’s Second Congressional District is comprised of sixteen south Alabama counties, including all of the Wiregrass, part of Montgomery and all of Elmore and Autauga Counties. The district is currently represented by Congressman Terry Everett (R-Rehobeth) who will not seek re-election in 2008.
